Sleeping Child

April 21, 2011. Somewhere along the national highway of Ilocos Sur, Philippines.

In case you're wondering, the vehicle you see here is a tricycle. It is a popular means of transportation in the Philippines, and is used mainly for short distances especially in barrios and urban villages.

Singapore 360 - Day 12: Clementi Railway

My soul took a ride

An empty passenger
On a jam-packed train

A bumpy journey
Across the valleys
Into the tunnels
And under the sea

It was unbearable
With nowhere to go

I closed my eyes
You came into view

It seems I took that trip
Just to find you

I had left broken
But have returned new

Dial A Friend

There on the train, he stood by the door.
With his right index finger, he dialed his friend.
When that didn't work, he used his thumb.
He gave a sigh so I thought he was done.
But then he saw me staring so I threw my gaze on the floor.
Then he looked at his nails just to make sure.
With a flick of his finger, he let it go.
Then reached into his nose and dialed some more.

Zouk Vampires

Vampires
Red eyes on fire
Blinding lights
We groove into the night

Dancing
Moving, shaking
Right and left
We are dexterous and deft

Music
Incantations
Euphony
Rythmn and Harmony

Zouk is in 17 Jiak Kim St., Singapore. It is about $6 and 5 minutes away from Clarke Quay.

Shimmering Eyes

There are even stories and there are odd stories.
Here's an odd one.
The rhythm and rhyme, even.

There was a special shimmer in her eyes.
It was the kind that brightened up the skies.
That cold, rainy morning in December,
The start of day I'd die to remember.
I couldn't figure out what I had missed,
Before we said 'goodbye' and hugged and kissed.

It was in bed that night that I would learn,
A time of reckoning, my crash and burn.
I caught the glimmer of the knife she held,
Before it struck -- and then the flow of red!
There was that shimmer in her eyes that day,
The kind that took my very breath away.

The odd or even scheme.
Walking along Cecil Street, I saw a sign that directed people to use the elevators on the right if they were getting off at odd-numbered floors, and those on the left for even-numbered ones.
Then it hit me.

Gap In The Map

A road we had travelled
The view we had marveled
The ink has long faded
Just as my soul, jaded
But the road is there
With the love I still bear

Your grip was strong
But your spirit weak
The path was steep
And the ravines deep
The fog was thick
No guide, no sign
No lighted wick
As your hand held mine

A journey worth making
Risk worth taking
That adventure together
On the way to forever
But your fear was stronger
I left no sooner
There’s a gap in the map
A void in my heart
